Slamcore Aware

Overview
A plug and play vision-based real time location system for material handling vehicles
Role | Product Designer & Associate Product Manager
Duration | 2024 - Present
Scope of Work | UI/UX Design, Design Systems, Branding, Vision Definition, Roadmaps |
The challenge
Warehouses and factories lose time and money, and experience accidents when management systems can’t see their vehicles and vehicle operators can’t see what’s around them.
Existing real time location solutions for material handling vehicles like Ultrawide Band and Bluetooth are low accuracy, require a large investment into infrastructure (e.g. beacons, networking) and cannot offer complete coverage of a facility to be able to track all vehicles.
The solution
A vision-based real time location system that runs on embedded hardware, mounted on every vehicle and that requires minimal external infrastructure.

By using stereo cameras, Slamcore unlocks high accuracy and robust performance whilst opening the door for additional product streams such as pedestrian and vehicle detection safety systems.

Product Design & Product Management
To interact with Slamcore Aware, users can access a web interface hosted by each device on the network.
With no product designers in the team, I took the initiative to own the product design and user experience for this, designing the user interface for the product from scratch in Figma, creating a basic design system and working closely with a team of frontend engineers to deliver an easy to use web interface to interact with the hardware device.
As an associate product manager, I collaborated with the lead product manager to define the product vision as well as focusing on the device setup and commissioning flow (i.e. device installation, first boot, environment mapping) to ensure simple set up and integration.
MVP

V2
After testing and getting customer feedback on the user interface, I worked on updating the product to maximise the screen space of the most valuable information.

Marketing
For the launch of Slamcore Aware, I worked closely with the Marketing team and an external animator, leading on the storyboard creation for a series of animations we created for the launch.
